Clogged drains can be one of the most annoying things to happen. It can cause water to drain slowly or not at all and even lead to worse drain problems. In order to avoid pesky clogs, it’s important to know what causes drain clogs in the first place. Here are four common causes of clogged drains.
Bathroom Drain: Hair and Soap
While soap isn’t enough to lead to big time clogs, hair and soap binding can create troublesome clogs. Over time, hair that goes down the drain will get stuck on drain pipes when it binds with soap. A way to prevent this is to get a hair strainer that you place over your bathtub or shower drain. It catches hair so you don’t have to worry about it going down the drain.
Toilets: Items That Aren’t Toilet Paper
Because toilet paper is essentially paper, it seems like other types of cotton, paper products can go down the drain. This is completely wrong. The only thing that should ever go down the drain that is remotely cotton or paper of the material is toilet paper. Ear swabs, cotton balls, feminine hygiene products, or paper towels should never go down the drain.
Kitchen Drain: Grease or Oil
Grease or oil should never, ever go down the drain. They can build up on the walls of the drain, causing a lot of problems. Place grease and oil in a container to protect your drains.
